Misión Boricua’s participation in the 1st Anniversary of the Women’s March of Central Florida was an opportunity to work as a coalition in seeking common goals and the understanding that our liberation is tied to each other, as stated in the event’s advertising. This year the march was being held in support of Puerto Rico and the sister islands affected by the 2017 Hurricanes. The WMCF had a Community Fair area where Misión Boricua was present and distributed postcards addressed to the US Congress asking for the Exemption of Puerto Rico from the Jones Act of 1920, as well as requesting additional emergency relief.
The theme for the Anniversary Women’s March of Central Florida 2018 was Power to the Polls. Misión Boricua advocated for full voter participation within the Puerto Rican Diaspora of Central Florida. Misión Boricua believes that Puerto Ricans in the Diaspora of Central Florida have a dual responsibility as a US citizens and Puerto Ricans to advocate for positive legislative changes within the US Congress.
Misión Boricua & Womens March are united on the issues:
- Additional Emergency Relief for PR
- Exemption of PR from the Jones Act
